St. Louis Family Needed Help Selling a Late Father's Firearm Collection

When three adult children began settling their late father's estate, they found themselves responsible for far more than a collection of firearms.

Estate collections often include much more than firearms. This collection contained more than 30 steel ammunition cans filled with assorted ammunition that required sorting, evaluation, and safe handling.
Estate collections often include much more than firearms. This collection contained more than 30 steel ammunition cans filled with assorted ammunition that required sorting, evaluation, and safe handling.

The collection included approximately fifty firearms, more than thirty military-style steel ammunition cans filled with ammunition, and hundreds of knives accumulated over a lifetime of collecting. While each family member wanted to handle the estate responsibly, none had experience identifying, documenting, valuing, or legally transferring such a large collection.

Rather than attempting to identify, value, and sell everything themselves, the family contacted MDRF Enterprises for assistance.

A Complete Estate Firearm Resolution

After an on-site evaluation, the entire collection was organized and documented before any transfer took place.

The collection included:

  • Approximately 50 firearms

  • More than 30 steel ammunition cans containing assorted ammunition

  • Several hundred knives and edged tools

  • Magazines, holsters, accessories, and related equipment

The estate included approximately 50 firearms ranging from modern handguns and sporting rifles to collectible long guns. Organizing the collection allowed the family to understand exactly what they had before making any decisions.

By handling the collection as a single project, the siblings avoided months of researching individual values, coordinating multiple buyers, or transporting firearms between locations.

Each firearm was individually identified and documented to help the family make informed decisions while ensuring all transfers complied with applicable federal and state regulations.

Helping Families Through Difficult Transitions

Like many estate situations, this wasn't simply about selling firearms.

The siblings wanted to understand what they had, make informed decisions together, and complete the process legally and respectfully.

Our role was to provide clear guidance, answer questions throughout the process, and ensure every firearm was transferred in compliance with federal and state requirements.

For families dealing with the loss of a parent, having a single licensed professional manage identification, documentation, and acquisition often removes a significant amount of stress during an already difficult time.

In addition to firearms, the estate included hundreds of knives, bayonets, and military collectibles. Complete estate resolution often involves evaluating all related assets—not just the firearms themselves.

One Collection. One Visit. One Professional Resource.

Estate firearm collections often include much more than guns alone.

Ammunition, knives, military collectibles, magazines, holsters, optics, and accessories all require evaluation before an estate can be fully resolved.

Knives, and edged tools were organized alongside the firearms, allowing the family to resolve the entire collection through a single licensed profession

By working with a licensed Federal Firearms Dealer, AGI Certified Firearms Appraiser, and CAGA Certified Personal Property Appraiser, the family was able to resolve the collection through a single trusted resource rather than coordinating multiple buyers or specialty services.
