Firearm Appraisal Standards & Pricing

Certified Valuations for Estates, Collections, and Insurance Documentation

MDRF Enterprises provides certified gun appraisals and firearm appraisals for estates, collectors, attorneys, and fiduciaries throughout the Saint Louis region.

Our appraisal reports are prepared using recognized personal property appraisal standards and documented valuation methodology. These reports are commonly used for probate filings, insurance documentation, tax reporting, and estate administration.

Professional Credentials and Standards

Certified Appraisers Guild of America (CAGA)

  • Certified Personal Property Appraiser trained in recognized personal property appraisal standards and professional ethics.

American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI)

  • Certified Firearms Appraiser (Certification ID #1152547) with specialized expertise in firearm identification, mechanics, and valuation.

USPAP-Aligned Reporting

  • Written reports follow recognized personal property appraisal practices commonly used for probate and tax documentation.

Federal Firearms License (FFL) & SOT

  • Licensed authority to document and evaluate regulated firearms including NFA-regulated items such as suppressors and short-barreled rifles.

Firearm Appraisal Service Tiers

MDRF Enterprises offers two distinct service paths depending on the needs of the estate or collection.

Some clients require a formal certified appraisal report for probate, tax documentation, or insurance purposes. Others simply want to understand the value of a collection and determine whether they wish to sell it.

To maintain professional appraisal independence, MDRF separates certified appraisal services from valuation estimates used for potential acquisition offers.

Certified Firearm Appraisals

(Independent written appraisal reports)

Certified appraisal reports are prepared when a formal valuation is required for estate administration, probate documentation, tax reporting, insurance scheduling, or legal proceedings.

In accordance with professional appraisal ethics, MDRF Enterprises does not purchase firearms that have been formally appraised through a certified written report. This ensures the valuation remains fully independent and defensible.

  • Probate inventories

Collection Evaluation for Potential Sale

(Informal valuation estimate)

Some families or executors are not seeking a formal appraisal report and instead wish to understand the approximate value of a firearm collection prior to selling.

In these situations, MDRF Enterprises can provide a valuation estimate based on current market conditions and acquisition value.

Because this process does not involve a formal certified appraisal report, MDRF may provide a licensed acquisition offer if the estate decides to sell the collection.

This allows clients to choose the option that best fits their needs:

  • Certified appraisal for documentation and probate records

  • Collection evaluation and acquisition offer for immediate liquidation

Valuation Methodology

MDRF Enterprises provides a dual-value reporting model to help executors and fiduciaries understand both the documented value and the practical disposition value of a collection.

Fair Market Value (FMV)

The estimated price at which property would change hands between a willing buyer and seller.

FMV is typically used for:

  • Probate inventories

  • Federal estate tax reporting (IRS Form 706)

  • Insurance documentation

Marketable Cash Value (MCV)

  • The realistic acquisition value of the firearm collection in the current market.

  • This value helps families and fiduciaries understand the practical sale value of the assets when making estate decisions.

Post-Appraisal Resolution Options

Once the appraisal is completed, clients may choose how they wish to proceed with the firearm collection.

Family Distribution

  • Use the valuation report to divide firearms fairly among beneficiaries.

Retention or Insurance Scheduling

  • Use the appraisal documentation to insure valuable firearms or maintain accurate estate records.

Licensed Collection Acquisition

  • If a family or estate chooses a collection evaluation rather than a formal certified appraisal, MDRF Enterprises may provide a licensed acquisition offer based on current market conditions.

  • Because certified appraisal reports must remain fully independent, firearms that have been formally appraised through a written report are not purchased by MDRF Enterprises.

  • This separation preserves the independence and credibility of the appraisal process while still providing families with a clear path to resolve collections when a sale is desired.

Why Families and Fiduciaries Work With MDRF

MDRF Enterprises operates differently from most appraisal providers.

Because the business operates under both certified appraisal credentials and a Federal Firearms License, clients can receive:

  • Certified firearm appraisal reports

  • Licensed handling of firearm collections

  • Lawful acquisition options if the estate decides to sell

This allows estates to work with a single professional from valuation through final resolution.
